Aha! That is the sound I love to hear as students in my classroom work together. These students all share a love of reading. They are also learning how to work together and collaborate efficiently.
The students are sixth graders in a middle school that is made up of close to 50% school of choice.
This diverse group of students chose Reader's Workshop because they love to read! Independent reading, along with collaboration are the main focus of this class.
In a technology driven society, many students in my Reader's Workshop class have the technology necessary to complete my book trailer project. However, not all students have a device with iMovie installed. With the addition of a classroom iPad, all students will have access to the technology needed to successfully complete their trailer.
The donations to this project will even the "playing field" for all students in the class.
All groups will have the capability to create a book trailer with the purpose of enticing the class to read the novel they chose. Each trailer will include plot elements and theme, while telling "their story." Attention will not be drawn to any student who does not have access to a device. A high interest project will get the focus it deserves and any feelings of inequity will be extinguished.
