I teach energetic and curious first graders who come to school eager to learn. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. However, all my students are given equal opportunities during the school day to be successful and build confidence.
My students are diverse learners from all over the city of Chicago.
All of my students are placed in my classroom because they are struggling readers and need additional support to become confident readers and writers. I believe my most important job is to inspire my students to love reading and learning. I love sharing my favorite books with my students and helping them find books they connect with and are excited to read. My students continue to amaze me with their progress each year.
My Project
My students' families are eager to help their children develop reading skills at home but need support from me to do this. Each week, I will fill these book totes with engaging new books and sight word cards for each student. Students will bring these materials home to practice reading for family members.
My students will develop essential reading skills while building a community of readers at home with their families.
The variety of titles will keep my students interested and challenged throughout the year as they progress as readers. Families will feel supported in helping their child continue to learn at home and further inspire a love of reading.
