This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The scholars at KCIA are a diverse and truly special group. They come from a litany of different nations and circumstances. Each one comes to KCIA and shares a different story and set of skills. Our joy as educators is the task of tapping into each scholar's skills and potential to grow them as life long learners.

One way we grow our scholars is through analyzing texts that they may or may not be able to read on their own outside of school.

This book study is supplemental to the regular curriculum and is planned as another way to allow students to access texts that they may not have chosen on their own, but connect them with a world beyond that of their everyday lives.

We need your help to complete this book study. Please consider donating to our scholars so that they may each have a copy of these texts and engage with them in a meaningful and, ultimately, fun way! Thank your for your support.

My Project

We will read these texts in a group setting and have rich discussions. We will also do activities that connect this text to other subjects we've been studying. For example, we will be learning about the genre of myths in a literacy module and reading a fantasy novel will invite the conversation of how these genres are similar and different. Another way these books will be beneficial is there is not always a lot of opportunity to discuss chosen texts and read books the students consider to be fun, so this will hopefully get students more interested in reading in general.
