My students need a class set of the books for our small group book studies and colored paper to help us organize the groups and projects that accompany the book study.
I currently teach ELA to a large group of 6th grade students. They are curious, fun, and eager to learn. This year I have been instilling the love of reading into these amazing students, and they are hungry for more!
When they started 6th grade I would hear comments such as, "I hate reading" , "reading is a waste of time", and "This is sooo boring!".
Thanks to a few good Literature Studies, and a whole lot of patience, I am starting to see their love of reading grow!! But I need help!
My Project
Competing with video games and short attention spans is hard to do in the 21st century. In my classroom I have been inspiring the love of reading by choosing books that appeal to the 6th grade audience.
It is so refreshing to see students excited and engaged in their reading!
In order to inspire and grow this love I need to supply my classroom with high interest, new release books that the students are excited to read.
In addition, I use a lot of colored paper to organize reading groups and assign specific job within the groups. They absolutely love using the colored paper to bring an extra level of excitement to their jobs. It also helps me keep groups and job organized at a glance.
