My students need bookshelves and bins in which to store their books for their literature circles as well as post-it flags and tabs to mark important passages and to track their progress in their books.

My Students

I teach an incredibly diverse group of learners in one of, if not THE, most diverse districts in the nation. My students come from a variety of racial / ethnic backgrounds, first languages, and socioeconomic levels, as well as a wide range of academic experiences and attitudes and extracurricular interests.

I want to introduce my students to a wide variety of genres, authors, and texts, so they can all find themselves in books.

I hope to cultivate a love of learning and reading because after they enter the "real world," as many of them are eager to do, they won't have an English teacher to make them read.

My Project

In my previous projects, I requested sets of contemporary, high-interest books for my students to read in their literature circles. I did not expect those projects to be funded so quickly or for my books to arrive immediately thereafter!

Now that those projects have been funded, I've realized that I'll need somewhere to store all of the materials!

The bins will protect the books during the summer, when our school will be repainted, and the bookshelves will help me display the books all year round to provide students with a literacy-rich environment. Even just having one copy of each book on my whiteboard ledge has encouraged students to touch them, ask about them, and want to read them!
