The Book Stop is a student bookstore in which students can buy and sell used books. The students will be able to earn "book bucks" to buy the books at the Book Stop. Students can earn "book bucks" various ways including completing homework assignments, accomplishing set goals, rewards for exhibiting positive behaviors, etc. I teach second grade in a school consisting of an approximately 47 percent free and reduced lunch student population. The students at my school come from many different socio-economic backgrounds where reading often is not a priority. Many students do not have access to books outside the school setting. With a student population of over 1100 students in K-5, our Media Center is the only book resource for students. I am requesting a rolling book cart with shelves on each side to display the books for the Book Stop. A rolling book cart would allow volunteers to easily set up and put away books when the Book Stop is not open. The Book Stop program would allow all students at my school access to more books for reading independently or with their families. The books could be "bought" by students, read, and "resold" to the Book Stop for book bucks to buy more books.
