My students need fiction and nonfiction texts on their individual reading level.
Everyday my students demonstrate an eagerness for learning. When it comes to reading this is no exception. Students have the chance to "book shop" at the classroom library on a weekly basis. This is an exciting time for students. They love choosing their new books for the week!
My students are learning on a daily basis how to help and care for one another.
This includes literacy when we are partner reading.
The first graders in my classroom truly enjoy reading books that interest them. Our school strives to provide resources for every student, but with a population of over 900 students this can be difficult. With nearly 64% of students receiving free/reduced lunch it is important for my school to have the needed materials to prepare our students for 21st century learning.
Using the leveled readers in the classroom will be a great motivator for students. This will allow students to have more choices for books on their unique level. The leveled texts will also be engaging for students because they will have books which are at their instructional level instead of frustrational level.
Donations for this project will greatly impact my students directly.
I will be able to provide my first graders with the tools necessary to become better readers one step at a time. Students who do not have access to books at home will not have to worry when they come to school because they will have what they need to become a fluent reader.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
