My students come to school eager to learn together. They come from many different backgrounds and cultures and bring with them a vast array of experiences and strengths.
The words we live by in our diverse, urban second grade classroom are, “The harder you work, the smarter you get!" Everyday you will see us setting goals and pursuing our hopes and dreams with focus.
Thanks for supporting the hard work of my 24 bright and bold learners!
At our K-8 performing arts magnet, more than half of our students are English language learners. We work hard every day to provide rigorous culturally relevant instruction that inspires achievement in and through the arts.
Do you have a favorite book series? Launch my students' love of a character like Katie Woo or Fly Guy and they will eagerly read book after book, throughout a series! Teaching them to think across books is a great way to improve comprehension and will set my second graders up to read longer, multi-chapter books.
We want to read books about kids just like us; help our classroom build a better collection of series books that have characters with diverse backgrounds, just like my students!
Your donation will put series books with realistic characters like Dyamonde Daniel and hilarious characters like Mercy Watson into the hands of my readers. In our second grade classroom there are students who are still reading at a kindergarten level and students who read well above second grade level. We need series books for every kind of reader.
It is vital for ALL levels of readers to have access to books at their level in a variety of high-interest titles. Research shows the more students read at their "Just-right" level the more quickly they develop as readers. Please consider donating to support our classroom library. We will use these series books to create "just-right" book clubs so that we can get to know our characters well and become passionate lifelong readers!
