My students need durable plastic book pouches that can be used to easily transport books home from our classroom library, so we can encourage reading at home!
I currently have 17 wonderful kindergarten students, who are eager to learn. My goal each year is for my students to learn to love school and learning. I believe that the best way to encourage this love of learning is by creating a fun and engaging environment for my students to learn.
Due to our school size and county budget, funding is limited, and all basic supplies and materials come from the pockets of the teachers or a few generous parents.
This makes it difficult to provide my students with everything that is needed in the classroom. Our school is a large elementary school, made up of approximately 650 students. We have a great, caring staff that works hard to make sure all of our students have what they need to succeed.
My Project
Seeing children read for the first time is so exciting! I love when students pick up a book, knowing they can read the words inside!
When children are learning to read it is so important to provide them with as many reading opportunities as possible.
I want to continue this excitement about reading at home too! Unfortunately many of my students do not have books to read at home. By allowing my students to take books home to read, I can provide a chance to get parents involved. What can be more exciting then a child reading a book to their parent!
As a way to protect these valuable tools (books), my students have been using plastic Ziplock bags as a storage place for these items. However, our experience with the Ziplock bags has not been successful. We are in need of durable bags that can be used to easily transport our books from school to home and back. These durable bags will protect classroom books from being bent, ripped, or spilled on in students backpacks. Using these durable bags is going to help each child easily transport books, have a better organized classroom, and above all protect our classroom library.
