My Students

I have a class of 30 5th graders in a large urban area.

5th grade is a huge growing experience for students, and I do my best to ensure that they are prepared for middle school, high school, and beyond.

To do this to the best of my ability, I would like to ensure that all students have the necessary supplies to succeed in class.

When the students are equipped with the proper supplies, they are more excited about their learning and engaged in class.

My Project

Promoting a love of reading is a huge component of my classroom. Besides having many books to choose from, having a comfortable spot around the room makes reading all the more enjoyable. Having pillows and reading buddies allows students to have a calm, safe space to read. They are able to focus on their books instead of how hard the classroom chairs can be. By having a comfortable spot to read, they are able to fully immerse themselves in their books, which not only leads to increased comprehension, but more importantly, to a lifelong love of learning, which is what I hope all students leave my class with.
