My students need books to read to continue to engage their love of reading. Providing students with a variety of text they can pick from helps them to develop a love for reading at all ages.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school services students from grades K-5. Our students are engaged in rigorous content with exceptional teachers guiding their learning experience every day. Our goal is to prepare our students to become critical thinkers and to seek out furthering their education.
Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds with students' families speaking a different language at home.
At our school over 96% of students receiving free or reduced lunches and over 20% are receiving ESL instruction. With students coming to school with other things on their minds, we strive daily to ensure that our students are getting what they need to be successful in this fast pace world.
My Project
In an age when so many students no longer enjoy reading I want to provide a variety of texts that can reignite lovers of reading. By providing students to interesting text they will be exposed to various writing styles, vocabulary, genres, point of views, and cultures. All these things help them to become better readers and learns. Reading is something that is meant to be enjoyed and by providing my students with books tailored to their taste they will no longer see it as mundane work, but as something that they can look forward to. An escape into a new world; a chance to learn about a new topic. It will be a way to grow their learning rather than a forced task that has hindered it.
