I teach a 4th grade class with diverse educational levels and abilities. Over half of my class of students come from lower economic homes. This class is starting with needed progress and growth especially in reading. I have a mix of students at a variety of levels.
Fifty-five percent of my students have started the year below benchmark levels in reading.
This is a lower class than many I have worked with. They need time reading texts that they are motivated to read.
Our class is working very hard at making growth as we redo our curriculum pieces to focus more on non-fiction. My 11 boys and 12 girls are excited for new opportunities to read!
My Project
My students have struggled with reading this year. They have needed newer, exciting books. I have a leftover library when I started that needs updating (ancient) and lots of newer reads. We have brought in some new books this year and my kids love them! I have also connected them to Audible where they listen and read and they love it! I can't wait to bring in new books and update oldie but goodies to build a better library. The more time they read, the better they will build their learning. New books for motivation and excitement to learn and grow!
