My students are a part of a unique new program at our school. They are a symbol of the next generation of learners. They are part of a Chinese Immersion program in which half of their day is taught only in Chinese, the other half in English.
They are the next generation of learners, leading the way to a more globally conscious and culturally tolerant society.
Each one of my students is unique and special in their own way. I want to give my students the ability to appreciate and respect all people. Our classroom community provides my students the opportunity to see the world through new lenses and gain a better understanding of themselves and of the world around them.
My Project
Students in my classroom participate in reading daily. One of the most powerful pieces of the reading instruction is growing lifelong readers who can read for different purposes, and also enjoy reading. When students are engaged in meaningful reading practices, they will cultivate a love of reading.
Graphic novels are currently some of the most coveted books in our classroom library that can engage even our reluctant readers.
This is why I'm requesting these books, to inspire these readers who just don't know they love reading yet.
I am also requesting multiple copies of the amazing book "Love That Dog". We will use this book as our core text when we study the art of poetry. I want to be able to put this high-interest poetry in their hands to get them excited about this genre.
