My Students

I love how honest my students are. They have honestly shared with me that they do not like to read. However, I have noticed that they do enjoy reading and listening to a good story. My students are 6th graders who are in a bilingual (English and Spanish class). They are preparing to enter the regular education classroom next year, but before entering that class they will need to improve their reading level so that reading will be much more pleasant for them.

My Project

A great book will "capture" my students' attention, motivate them to read more and help increase their level of reading. They'll need to become accustomed to reading to experience success on their tests and to be ready for middle school. The topics of these 3 books are also excellent for engaging the students in enlightening conversations.

I want to "arrest" my students' interests with the plot of these 3 books.

They will learn about life in the Middle East where school was forbidden for girls. They'll also read about a loving family from the perspective of an extremely smart, athletic and popular 7th grade boy, and they'll see what it means to be proud of who you are from a brave girl.
