My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a K-8 school in Redwood City. They are creative, hard-working and come from all walks of life. They love learning and their enthusiasm for education is inspiring to see. Since my students are becoming teenagers it is really exciting to see how they embrace their individuality, but also how they are fearless in the face of adversity. They want to stand up for what they believe in, they want to have their voices heard against racism, sexism and prejudice and they want to make a difference. Please help them recognize the power they have to lead this next generation!
My Project
My students need new copies of the book Maroo of the Winter Caves. This is an awesome book about a girl who lives in the Ice Age.
The book brings to life an era that is so long ago, and really hooks readers into this time period with adventure and exciting cliff hangers.
It will be a great way to start the year and build community. My students in the past have really enjoyed learning about the animals of this time period and the challenging of being alive in the Ice Age. Having this book as a class novel will help my students build literacy skills and comprehension of what they read. It will also connect between social studies and language arts.
