As I go from classroom to classroom, my students are always asking, "What story are you reading today?" As a reading interventionist, I strive to create a true love of books and reading from all my students.
My school is one of the lowest SES schools in my area with over 80% of the students qualifying for free or reduced lunches.
By offering an after-school program, many of my students are at school for 9-10 hours of their day, receiving breakfast, lunch, and dinner before going home. They truly consider "school" to be their home and look for the love and support provided by all staff!
In today's technological world, students' free time is often taken up with video games, YouTube, and other web-based activities. It is a rare sight to see a child sitting with a book, reading, and enjoying it!
The donations to this project will help me to instill a love of reading that is so often lost with today's student.
Through the use of these chapter books that are of high interest to my students, I can work with small groups to show that any book can be turned into an adventure. We just need to take the time to open the book and jump in!
