3rd graders are an amazing group of learners. They are still excited about school and eager to take risks. They are loving and curious and willing to help. They want to please and want to do well. They strive for positive reinforcement and building meaningful relationships. This isn't dependent on race, socioeconomic status or culture.
Many of my students come from low-income families yet come to school just as any other student ready to learn and engage.
They put their trust in me, their teacher, to provide them with a loving and safe environment in which to learn and grow.
Given the right resources, any student has the ability to soar! Sometimes, it just takes a loving teacher, a lot of reinforcement and a gentle nudge :)
My Project
I am returning to teaching and only have a few book sets. I started Book Clubs recently and the kids are loving them. They read a book in a small group and then have enriched discussions about what is happening, what is being inferred, the points of view of each character and each character's personality traits. They also write letters to the author and write book reviews. Their reading scores have soared! I want to keep them inspired, excited, working together and having discussions that are engaging and meaningful! I am hoping to get more book sets to keep Book Clubs thriving for many years!
