My third grade students are a diverse group of learners full of curiosity! Each day they bring with them a variety of learning styles and academic needs. Many of my students experience many challenges outside of school. My school is a Title I school which means most of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students are looking to enhance their reading abilities through global connections.
My students are looking for diverse books to make connections to characters to help develop a love of reading and deepen comprehension.
Our classroom is also part of a postcard exchange in the Global Read Aloud. They need postcards and stamps to participate and learn about the world around them.
The books, postcards, and stamps will allow my students to participate in The Global Read Aloud. My students will be able to read and discuss literature with classrooms across the globe. Our class will send a postcard to each of the 50 states and a few other countries. The postcards will teach my students about the world around them.
My students will build a deeper understanding of the world around them by sharing in this wonderful story, A Boy Called Bat, with other students outside of New Jersey.
They will learn to connect and share ideas with different classrooms. Students will be able to build their geography skills as well.
