My students need novels that they can read with their teacher and their family members in English and in Spanish in order to participate in a book club that gives access to bilingual families.
Many children require MOVEMENT and a FLEXIBLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT in order to achieve the highest levels of academic success. Children are naturally full of energy, and school should be a place to CHANNEL that energy into positive learning outcomes. Students who feel a deep connection to their learning spaces are more likely to feel invested in their education. Creativity is key when designing a 21st-century classroom in which the ultimate goal is giving children the space options that they need for optimum learning.
The beauty of the diversity of our school is unmatched in our district and creates a community of acceptance that gives me hope about the types of people we are releasing into this ever-changing world.
My students are active learners who constantly self-advocate for a fresh take on instruction. Utilizing alternative methods with my students always helps to engage them, and I find it my personal charge to build each child's intrinsic motivation while cultivating a learning environment that shows that learning is fun!
Student engagement is the ultimate goal of my teaching practice, and it is easier to excite my students with an environment and materials that help them look forward to hard academic work.
My Project
My students require outside-the-box thinking in order to buy into reading for fun. Many of the families of the children in my school speak only Spanish, and therefore may not feel as comfortable discussing reading strategies taught to their children in English.
I need English and Spanish versions of a novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, to engage my students and their families in a book club in order to teach parents how to support their children at home as avid readers.
Spanish versions of this book will remove an obstacle that some parents face, taking the language barrier away from engaging families in participation in learning. English versions of this book will allow students to read alongside their families at home while cultivating good reading habits.
