This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a second grade class located on the southwest side of Chicago. We are a poverty stricken neighborhood.
Education will be their "way out" or their way to give back to their community as an adult.
The students come to school everyday excited to learn! Despite their hardships (no heat, little food, dirty clothes, no school supplies, etc.) they are happy and want to succeed.
I had the choice to teach in a "nice suburban school." However, I choose to teach here and I absolutely love it and my students!
My Project
Thank you for considering my project! Second graders love reading chapter books. They feel so independent and grown-up. I am asking for a variety of fun and engaging titles for our book club. I can't wait to share these books with my students. Book Club is a great way to encourage a love for reading! While the students read together they will be developing critical thinking skills in a most enjoyable way. They will have in-depth discussions on the story elements, author's craft, character traits, predictions, connections, author's purpose, conflict and resolution, cause and effect, and the lesson or theme of the story. They will have so much fun while learning these important skills. Thank you for your support!
