I teach third and fourth grade in the city of Louisville, Kentucky. My students love to read and learn new things every day. They come to school excited to learn and to be at school in a familiar, structured environment. They are a very active group of students, and I always try to keep them moving and learning in a variety of ways.

They are growing to love a variety of books this year and engaging in longer chapter books as well.
My Project
My students love to read! This year I have started doing a lunch time book club with them. Each student gets their own copy of the book we are reading, and they read a few chapters on their own. Then, we meet once or twice a week during lunch time to discuss what they have read. I love this time in our day because it allows students to discuss how they feel about the characters and their interpretations of the book.
Although I started out leading the discussions, students are now able to lead book club discussions themselves.
It is so powerful to listen to them discuss the book as a class and to hear their different points of view about the story. We are able to discuss the same standards that we are learning in class such as character traits, theme, point of view, and inferencing. My students and I absolutely love this time of the day. However, we do not have any more class sets of books to read. These book sets will allow me to continue doing book club with my class for the rest of the year.
