My students attend a middle school of about 900 students for grades seven and eight. In our district, nearly 70% percent of students receive free or reduced price lunch and over 25% are English Learners. Students come from all types of backgrounds and home experiences. They are living life and trying to make sense of the world around them--not an easy task at the age of 12!
Some have it all, while others have nothing but school.
But when they walk through my door, they are all my students. I believe education will open doors for them, and that they can all have the future of their dreams.
Nothing is more exciting than talking about a book you love with someone who loves it as much as you! The shared interest, the shared knowledge, the shared excitement...it's magical when it happens in "real life" and even more magical when it happens in the classroom. I want to create that experience for my students this year!
Book clubs make us excited to read!
In order to make book clubs a reality for my students, I need more copies of books they will love. With multiple copies in the classroom, groups of students will be able to read the same novel at the same time. This will open the door for authentic discussions about literature and help develop a life-long love of reading.
