My Students

Our book club is made up of students who are already excited about reading and eager to discuss their latest find. Many of our students suggest books for us to read as a group during future meetings. We love to see them excited about the books they suggest and the genres we introduce! We have students from every grade, male and female, and diverse cultural backgrounds. They generally join the book club early in their high school career and return each year to participate.

My Project

Owning multiple copies of the books will allow our students to check them out simultaneously, giving them the opportunity to read them at the same time and come to book club with their discussion points fresh in their minds. Readers who enjoy these books will be inspired to read more historical fiction and more graphic novels in the future. Historical fiction can help students relate to many world events and situations that they did not personally witness. Reading a graphic novel in place of a standard fiction book will keep our book club discussions fresh and interesting.

Their enthusiasm for these two books, Year of Wonders and The Odyssey of Sergeant Jack Brennan, will inspire others to read them and will help recruit new members to book club in the future.
