Book Club Extravaganza

Help me give my students these books for book clubs. These books will be used in small groups, as students explore and talk to each other about relevant topics and books they are interested in.

My Project

My students are vorocious readers. I have many students reading at and above grade level, and I don't have many multiple copies. I am teaching fifth grade for the first time, and as a result, I have very few multiple copies of good fifth grade titles, and the ones that I do have, are older (still well-loved) and are titles the students have already read. I am also trying to diversify my library and provide materials that allow students to see different perspectives and to learn about the world around them. We do a big immigration unit in fifth, as we discuss human movement and settlement and how that relates to geography, so some of these books are tied to immigration and migration and the reasons why people move from one place to another.

My students love book groups and are so invested when they get to pick books to read based on interest level.

I continue to work on providing interesting, thought-provoking titles that will enrich their lives and make them think. Please help me provide them with books that are newer and may be more relevant to their lives than some of the older copies I have. The world is changing and our kids are aware of it. They watch the news and they are heavily invested. I need titles that will provide them context while also being something they are really invested and interested in.
