My students need book club books! I want my learners to have choice in what they read. Allowing them multiple options will encourage them to become life-long readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I can't imagine my life without my sweet students. I am so looking forward to the first day of school this August, where I know I will be given hug after hug from my past kiddos! My learners come to me at all different reading levels, but that is part of the fun challenge of finding the right book for them!
One of my favorite things about being a teacher is getting to connect with my kids.
I have them write in a journal every day, and being able to see their ideas about the world is a special gift. No matter how difficult their past or current home life is, I love being able to share in the little daily moments they describe in their writing.
My Project
Seeing my students connect and relate to a main character in a novel is an amazing feeling. By giving them so many choices in genre, writing style, and types of main characters, I know even my most reluctant readers will be itching to pick up a new book.
With the new texts like, "Miles Morales, Spider-Man," I cannot wait to see the joy on my boys' faces at seeing a character who looks like them, and a comic book-even better!
Having new and high interest texts will help me reach as many students as possible. Getting Middle-Schoolers excited about reading is no easy feat, but this list of new books will surely help me out:)
