Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Resilient, hardworking, kind, and full of grit are just a handful of words that I can use to describe my students. I am incredibly lucky to work alongside these spectacular students each and every day. I am their teacher, but they also teach me just what it means to have grit. Many of our students have tough situations at home. Some may not have a single book of their own to read at home. I strive to create a classroom library rich in cultures and characters to represent each one of my students. Despite the cards they may have been dealt with, that does not stop them from soaring.
I encourage my students to explore the world around them and constantly learn from the perspectives of others.
My students have a thirst to grow as readers and as people in their community. They serve as role models to those around them. They do this by initiating random acts of kindness in the school and community they live in. I have no doubt that they will one day change the world they live in!
My Project
Talking about our reading is a huge part of becoming a lifelong reader. I encourage my students to collaborate in many different ways.
One area where I would like to push and engage my readers is through book clubs!
In a book club, students read the same book and discuss their unique thoughts. Through this curated collection of book club sets, I will be able to engage my readers with many different books, and I will hit the vast scope of learners I have in my room. My wish is to have clubs of all reading levels with many different book choices for each club. This is going to increase collaboration, engagement, and push my readers to higher levels!
