This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a variety of students grades K to 6th. The classes vary in size, but they utilize the library anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes per week. A majority of my students come from low-income families, and the school is in a low-income district.
Our library needs updated books to replace old books and furniture, but with budget cuts, we are having a hard time keeping clean, new materials in our school library.
Each class from grades 1 to 6 is involved in an Accelerated Reading program and often come to the library for books and a place to work. Kindergarten comes each day for fun, games, and read alouds.
My Project
These items will be used to help revamp an outdated library. Bringing in new furniture and new multicultural books will build pride in self and community. The library is one of a few meeting places students congregate, and the library serves grades K to 6th.
Students need new furniture- a quiet and relaxed area, and they need books to make the library a part of the 21st century.
These items will be used and displayed in the library; however, every class has access to the materials and space. Staff also will use the space for meetings and additional materials
