Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed to be teaching first grade in MT. Firsties have an abundance of excitement, motivation, and curiosity. Their capacity to make great growth in all areas is astonishing. They are continuously engaged in the exploration of the world around them.
I love being able to play a role in their academic adventures.
In our classroom community, we have some big dreamers who have to overcome some serious obstacles for being so young. Many of them come from broken homes and struggle greatly with getting their basic needs met. We have students with a rich ranching background, students who have always lived in our city, transplants from other states, and some who have lived most of their lives on one of the large Native American reservations in Montana. This diversity creates a rich learning environment that promotes acceptance of all people and ideas.
My Project
One of my students' biggest complaints is how uncomfortable they are sitting criss-cross applesauce on our rug. Please help me with the first step by providing them with a comfy rug. This soft touch rug has a special blocking pattern that appeals to the senses of little ones. It also has double-stitched edges to prevent fraying and has soil release treatment carpet guard to prevent stains. With the dark green color, this carpet will last for quite some time.
Just as the kitchen is the heart of any home, a rug is the heart of any primary classroom.
The bulk of my whole group instruction in all subjects is done with kiddos gathered around me on the rug whether standing, sitting, or laying down. We play games, read together, and sing at the carpet. It is the gathering place for deep conversations about the world, our place to solve problems, and practice communication skills. Again, a good durable rug is necessary for us to accomplish our many educational goals.
