I teach Communication arts in a rural school in Pennsylvania that has 36% free and reduced lunch.

Students love to read in groups. One of the most popular series for boys today is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. It deals with difficult issues with humor. The problem is the school library has one copy of each book, meaning they are always checked out, and I only have two single copies of one of the books in the series my classroom.

Having multiple copies will allow the kids to read a book and discuss it at the same time-fostering conversations about dealing with school bullies, school authority figures and other touchy topics.
