This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I absolutely love reading! It brings joy to my life and I love to share that with my students. I love the looks on their faces when they are so into a book and want to know what happens next. I want to build that live of reading in their independent reading.
At my school, we are 50%+ economically disadvantaged.
The majority of students in my class do not have books at home and are not exposed to the wide world of literature at home. They come to me not reading where they should be. I use the majority of my teaching day working on getting them caught up. They need books to take home and share with their parents. Books to help them build their fluency, comprehension and accuracy skills.
My Project
With leveled readers, my students would have books to read on their level in the classroom and also resources they can borrow and take home. This will allow parents the ability to work with their child at home. It will also allow me to have a wide array of books to help them in the classroom. We have not had new carpets in our classroom for 10 years. The carpet would give my students a nice, clean area for them to read.
Reading is the most important thing a child can learn!!
If we can build that love for reading in them then they will love school and learning new information. Reading can change their lives!
