Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of curious, bright, and kind kindergarten students in the South Bronx. They come to kindergarten excited to learn how to read, write, become mathematicians, and to play!
My students are explorers and their imaginations are limitless!
When listening to a good book, they are eager to predict what comes next and share their ideas about books. Kindergarten students love read-alouds and remembering stories and events to enhance their play. They act out the stories and events through play and use their imaginations to create their own stories!
My Project
The use of stuffed animals from well-loved books will accompany each student during independent reading time on a daily basis! I specifically chose characters from stories that my students love in order to encourage scholars to cuddle up with a buddy and a book!
On World Read Aloud Day, a third grade class lent us their "book buddies" and my scholars could not get enough of reading all day!
Many of my students chose to read during Choice Time and "grow their brain" in order to read and cuddle with a soft friend!
Characters like Knuffle Bunny, Harry the Dirty Dog and the Hungry Caterpillar have found their way into my students' hearts. I am confident that with these "book buddies" in our class, scholars will be even more excited about literacy and becoming life-long readers.
