My Students

My students learn differently than most. They require extra practice and do not always learn the way they are taught in class. My students are always eager to learn with me. They know they are in a safe environment and they are not afraid to take risks. They feel successful and leave feeling proud of what they have accomplished.

Not all students learn the same way.

My students range from grades K-5 and all have varying needs.

Not only do I work with students on my caseload but others as well who need a different setting or style of learning. My students are from general education classrooms who have varying needs including but not limited to: health impairments, language impairments, emotional impairments, learning disabilities, and autism.

I take great pride in what I do and hope to make my classroom a second home.

My Project

My students are severely below (3+ or more years) grade level in reading. We found some books that are of high interest and my students enjoy reading them. The problem is, we need more books! This is a great problem to have as my students are all reluctant readers and they want more books! My students are aware they are reading easier books than their peers and it's embarrassing. These books do not look "babyish" to them. In fact, these books encourage them to read more! They especially love the nonfiction books.

I want to foster a love of reading in my students.

They are no longer reading because they have to but because they want to. The nonfiction books give them the opportunity to learn about people, animals, and places. The books would be made available during in person and remote learning times. Most of my students do not have books at home. The students are excited to learn with these books! I want the excitement that I see while my students read to continue.
