Help me give my students a diverse selection of current fiction and non-fiction for our classroom library. These titles deal with social issues and real-life situations that our students often face.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are great kids and range in age between 15 and 18. The wide majority are from high poverty backgrounds where books are luxuries. Very few of them have books in the home. A lot of my students are very involved in sports, clubs, and they work after school at part-time jobs or babysitting siblings.
Even though my students come from challenging backgrounds, they are hungry to learn.
When asked about their past reading habits, for example, many were nostalgic about elementary school when they were able to read for fun. Almost none of them read outside of school as teenagers. It's almost as if it just has never occurred to them.
I have long been a believer in independent reading for students. These books will be used in our classroom library and will be available for checkout by my students. By reading a book of their own choosing my students will increase their vocabulary and learn to enjoy literature. My students are often reluctant readers but I have discovered that they will read books that are relevant to their lives and with characters with whom they can connect.
Research has shown the benefit of daily reading.
These books will allow my students to grow and will make a positive impact on their academic success.
