My students need nonfiction book sets such as the Step Into Reading set in order to increase our global awareness and to learn more about the world around us!
Being a teacher in a Title I, low income school, I have several students who face significant obstacles every day. I am always looking for ways to overcome some of those obstacles while the students are in my classroom.
My classroom is comprised of students from varying geographical and socioeconomic backgrounds; many of who have a history of social or emotional setbacks.
Even with all of their setbacks and obstacles, my students enjoy learning and are always asking questions to try and learn more. I try my best to accommodate the needs of each student, no matter the obstacles and challenges they face every day.
My Project
These nonfiction books will help increase my students' global awareness and will help increase their knowledge about the world around us. They will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create, and cut down on the need for so much technology and screen time.
With these nonfiction books, students will be able to choose books that are of high interest and at their independent reading level.
This will help them because the best way to increase your reading skills is to read something you enjoy.
In first grade, students are required to research a topic and write facts about it. These books would be perfect for students--they could conduct their own research and find out about their topic on their own. Not only are they learning reading skills, but they will also learn research and writing skills with these books as well.
