My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 95% of them receiving free lunch.
The classroom is a very stable and friendly place for them and many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend.
Many of my students are being raised by a single parent or grandparent and I want to give students the best education possible in a friendly, welcoming, and engaging environment. My students are excited to come to school and enthusiastic about learning.
All of my students want to learn to write and are very creative. Many students can be motivated by using tools to create their projects or books, whether it be digital color printing or by hand. Our printer needs black and color ink to help us create digitally. A book binder would allow us to bind these into books for students to brows, revisit, and share. This process helps encourage students to write and they gain confidence and pride in putting their thoughts down on paper. We make these books more durable by laminating.
First Graders love to showcase their work and writings with each other and their families.
My students take pride in their work and love to look back on these durable, colorful, bound, and meaningful projects. Book Making reinforces their reading and writing skills while setting them up for success in all subject areas.
We hope to kick off the school year with our Rules Book that has been written and illustrated by students, then laminated, bound, and put into our class book box to help remind the students of our code of conduct. Students love looking at the bright colors they use to illustrate their writings and it helps them take ownership of their learning and encourages them to continue reading and writing independently and with the class.
