Help me give my students an opportunity to expand their minds through literature and literacy! These exciting fiction and non-fiction books are not only entertaining but feature characters that appeal to my students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first-time, kindergarten teacher in a low-income area of Delaware; however, this is not my first classroom experience. I teach twenty students in my homeroom who are full of love and curiosity. They take care of one another like a little family. Additionally, I work with students in my two intervention groups. My students come to me with a variety of needs (socially, emotionally and academically). I have four English Language Learners and two students with Special Education needs.
My Project
These books will help to expand on my student's literacy and language knowledge. Not only will they have access to material they will enjoy reading in the classroom, but they will be able to gain a deeper understanding of different genres, type of text, and see a character that looks similar to them.
These books also fit into our district's curriculum, therefore students are able to apply information that is learned during lessons to the text being chosen from this list of books.
Students will be able to use these texts to identify story elements, genre, and identify sight words.
