This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach First Grade at a historically under served and culturally diverse PK-5 school nestled in Northeast Portland. We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) and Mandarin Immersion school with many diverse learning opportunities for our students. It is this diversity that makes our school such a vibrant place for learning.
My students are curious, creative and eager to learn.
They come from different backgrounds and welcome everyone into our community. They support, encourage and challenge each other daily. They’re full of questions about the world and stories to tell from their own personal experiences.
Their love for learning can be seen as they set goals for themselves and persevere through challenging tasks.
My Project
My class loves to read. First grade is a time for building strong reading habits and exploring many types of books. It is important that this happens both in the classroom and at home. That is why I am asking for durable book bags, which will allow my students to take their favorite books home.
Being able to give my students book bags will allow them to practice their skills at home with their family and help foster a love for reading.
Each child will be given a bag to take home books from our classroom library. These book bags are important because they will help protect our books. With these protective bags my students will be able to care for our classroom books and read more at home.
