This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.” - Malala Yousafzai.
My students are beginning to explore their ability to use letters and words to share their ideas and change the world. Becoming writers will help them make those changes.
I am privileged to teach an amazing group of Pre-Kindergarten students in a public, urban school.
My students are excited to learn as many things as possible and we try to provide many experiences. However, due to budget and resource limitations, we do not have access to all of the materials and experiences that would maximize our learning.
My Project
I am requesting six boogie boards with protective sleeves. These tablets will help my students explore the connections between reading and writing. When we are working in small groups, we often need practice writing letters and words that are in the books we are reading. Boogie boards will give us the chance to write with a novel material that also saves paper.
Learning to write requires a lot of repetition and practice.
In order to keep learning novel and interesting, students use a variety of materials and practice writing multiple times. Boogie boards will provide an exciting way to practice foundational skills while reducing the amount of paper waste produced in the classroom; they will also allow students who are anxious about making mistakes to erase and retry at the touch of a button.
