Our school is located in a small, rural town. It is unique because it houses grades Pre-K through 8th. Our community is near a major university and military base so we have a diverse population of students.
I teach Title I reading and math.
Our program includes three teachers and we work simultaneously with small groups throughout the school day. Our program serves approximately 75 out of 400 students in our school. These students have deficits in either reading or math.
My Project
A Boogie Board is a new electronic notepad that is similar to paper/pencil, but with a twist. It is battery powered and comes with a stylus. We are always looking for unique ways to reach students with different styles of learning.
Reluctant learners often avoid paper/pencil tasks.
Boogie Boards would provide a fun and engaging way to practice various reading, writing, and math skills. it is a great alternative to worksheets and could motivate struggling learners to gain a higher level of understanding.
School funding in our district is tight. The majority of our Title I funding is used to pay staff salary, so little is left to purchase additional instructional materials and equipment. Funding this project would give our students a hands-on opportunity to use a new form of technology.
