My Students

My students are eager, self-driven kids who give it their all, every day.

Nearly 80% of my students come from low-income, newcomer families.

Our students live in small one-room apartments where having their own library at home is not possible. Books are hard to access, and we want to make them easily accessible for them. They need a chance to read often so that they can achieve beyond what their parents work so hard for. Our students are their families' hopes and dreams. We do not receive funding for a literacy program nor for books, but our students are in need of literacy intervention to succeed in school.

My Project

Writing, Reading, Word Work, Writing...Literacy Intervention here is intentionally packed with activities strategically planned to help students accelerate in Literacy. "Write THE, Write WENT, Write RAN, MAN, CAN and words that rhyme with AN" How much fun it would be for a child to see their writing GLOW and disappear at the touch of a button.

Boogie Board Writing Tablets are used as an essential tool in making a child's writing GLOW during Word Work & Writing activities.

Literacy Intervention at our school is never boring. Students are constantly engaged and being challenged to practice literacy in writing, reading and word work. The Writing Tablets mix things up and makes writing so much fun; they forget that they are working at above their comfort zone. Engagement is central in our program. With that, we can motivate and be effective in motivating students to reach their literacy goals.
