Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my proposal! I teach 2nd grade at a Title I school where approximately 60% of its students receive free or reduced lunches. Our school is also made up of approximately 47% Hispanic students and we are a Reading Initiative School. One of my favorite subjects to teach is Reading. Teaching Reading is so important because it is one of the most important skills needed to be successful in life. It's not only important to me to teach my students how to read and to become better readers, but for them to have a love for reading that they will enjoy reading for pleasure for a lifetime. My students love to listen to me read to them. Our special read aloud time is right after lunch. We enjoy and nice story together. I love to read seasonal or holiday books because the students can relate to them so easily. Most months we focus on an upcoming holiday or special day and I like to read books that go along with the holidays or special days. The kids love these kinds of books. I have selected these books to enhance my classroom library selection of seasonal or holiday books. I know my students would love to have these books available in our classroom library and to hear their teacher read them. Your support would provide my students with a great selection of books to choose from in our classroom library. Not only my students this year would be able to use these resources, but all of my students in classes for years to come.
