My Project

Sphero Bolt robots will take our coding club to the next level. These robots go beyond the basics of coding and focus on programming in 3 ways: Draw, Blocks, and Text. By having 3 programming options, these robots are ideal for coders from novice to experienced. The items requested in this project will promote critical thinking skills, emphasize the "productive struggle", and lay the foundation for 21st century job skills that are heavily technology-related.

In today's digital era, learning to code is vital for students.

It equips them with problem-solving skills, fosters creativity, and encourages teamwork. By mastering coding concepts, students develop computational thinking, enabling them to tackle complex problems effectively. As technology becomes increasingly pervasive, proficiency in coding prepares students for the demands of the modern workforce and opens doors to endless opportunities for innovation and growth.

The goals for this project are to incorporate higher-level programming into our coding club while adding in elements of STEM. My ideal lesson would be students using materials to create their own course for their robots, and then program their robots to maneuver through the course. Our campus is special because we host a wide range of students including Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) education students from all over East Texas. Some of our students travel to our school from 45+ minutes away because their zoned districts do not provide deaf education services. Our campus also has a large population of economically disadvantaged students which makes our school Title I. Because of this, our students do not have a lot of life experiences that students at other campuses might.
