Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher who works with fourth and fifth graders in El Paso, Texas. I have a small class of eight students at the moment with the chance to grow at any time. My students are excited about learning and love being involved in hands-on activities and real-world learning applications. They also love to use technology and work with their peers. We are looking for fun ways to apply life long skills in our daily school lessons that they will be able to take with them everywhere they go.
My students are big readers and knowledge seekers!
As a teacher, I love and appreciate this and want to offer ways for this exploration to occur in our classroom daily. I wish is for them to take risks and explore life. My students come from low-income areas of military, retired military, and families where access to different hand on tools may be difficult.
My Project
I want to introduce my students to different forms of coding. We are familiar with coding games, but I feel we need to find something hands-on to experiment and learn with. As a teacher, I also need to broaden my horizons and expand. Not only will my students learn, but be rewarded with fun.
Bolt my students out of their comfort zone, and help them expand with technology, and fun races.
With the Sphero we will practice programming, coding, and engineering. We will build mazes and lead our bolts through as teams, learning to work together to come to a successful solution.
