The number one excuse for not handing in essays is printer problems! I would like to provide my students with their own printer/copier/scanner in the classroom, not only to solve this dilemma, but also so they can easily share materials in our Drama classes.
We are a Title I school in California, where many students are on the free lunch program.
The library is only open 2-3 days per week, and many students do not have access to computers or printers at home. In addition, we are working to rebuild our school's drama program, and with a small library, the books need to stay in the room. With a copier, students can copy small excerpts from books, plays, and scenes that they are interested in, rather than having to copy them by hand. I teach both Drama and English so both departments will benefit from the donation.
My Project
I am requesting 1 scanner/printer and 1 toner cartridge in the classroom. I envision students feeling empowered to take care of printing their homework and essays themselves. They will not be dependent on me to print a paper for them or for their parents to replace an ink cartridge at home. I also see students collaborating, the image that comes to mind is two students writing a scene together and then running a copies of it for their cast so that each actor can each have their own copy as they rehearse and start to see their project come to life!
This project is important because it will help students feel self-sufficient and therefore build confidence.
It will also help them pursue their dreams of staging student produced scenes and plays. I am grateful for the important and unique work that Donorschoose partakes in, as well as the generosity of donors like Disney and Chevron.
