We need to update our space/astronomy section. My library is a public school library that serves 500 students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. Students come to the library once a week for 55 minutes for lessons and book selection. Our books also go to the staff for curriculum purposes. We need to update our space/astronomy collection. The collection is aged. The average age of our space/astronomy collection, according to Collectionwiz analysis, is 1996. Science is something many students enjoy. They love reading about the planets, stars, and other cosmic bodies. The books in this DonorsChoose.org selection are all reading levels (according to accelerated reader) 5th grade and under, so many students will be able to read these without any problems.
My Project
Our space books are outdated and we need lower level books about the galaxy. These books are all rated on accelerated reader so they will be used as AR books. The majority of our books were published in the 1970's and 1980's. These books will be available to all grades kindergarten to fourth grade and will be used as part of the accelerated reader program, nonfiction program, and as choice reading for students who prefer to learn about space. The books requested are all hardback so that they will last multiple circulations allowing the supplies to last longer. With the focus on STEM learning, this will go a long way to helping open the minds of students.
