This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is part of a large urban district and has one of the highest levels of poverty in the country. We pull students from all over the city to participate in our free, public program.
I teach in a Montessori school, where we focus on the individual needs of the children and follow them on their learning path.
Our return to school has been successful, and we are learning to use materials in a safe way. Our students are in grades 1-3 and we have them for a 3 year cycle. This allows us to individualize the curriculum for each child.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will be used for school and at home practice. We are constantly working to grow and develop many skills. The laminating sheets and ink will provide the opportunity to create new materials that the students can use and manipulate both in the classroom and at home. Best practices include multiple opportunities to practice skills and when students have their own personal materials, they have a better chance at retention of skills.
Students need the opportunity to constantly create new materials so they can take ownership of their learning.
The materials needed for printing materials on laminated cardstock will ensure their longevity in the classroom.
