Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Is beauty is in the eye of the beholder or the lens of mass media?
A snapshot of our middle school shows a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in sixth through eighth grades.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced price lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. All of the students have lost time at school due to Hurricane Sandy, some have lost their homes.
My Project
I am requesting these body image books help the children to understand the lengths the media and fashion industries go through to create the perfect image. Many of my students fail to realize that the images are retouched and edited before the magazines goes to print. This changes their self worth and personal body image.
Help my students to understand their own value and worth.
Help them to see not everyone looks like a supermodel, even some of the supermodels do not look as they are portrayed in print. Help my student learn about true beauty with these books.
