My Students
My students are an amazing group of eclectic children, coming from all walks of life. Many are from socio-economically challenged homes, many from migrant families. The city is small so that most students who are permanent residents have known each other forever. It is a 'large family' of sorts. They all support each other and strive every day to be successful. And they are!
Despite humble home lives, these students are here every day ready to tackle their learning with rigor and excitement!
My Project
I am requesting a class set of yoga mats to be used for students during indoor Physical Education as well as to utilize during our new interessessions throughout the year. These intersessions are built to give students a break from stringent curriculum and make learning fun by incorporating art, physical activities and other things that are correlated to the curriculum itself.
A balanced mind is just as important as a learning mind.
After attending Trauma Sensitive Training, we realized our students are experiencing trauma on a daily basis with no help to curb the pain or heal their minds. We are incorporating activities to help heal them and give them new focus on learning.
