My students need a wide selection of quality school supplies which will reward positive behaviors and will also contribute to school success through creativity and productivity. The 96 book covers, 40 calculators, 70 markers, 60 pencils, and 960 chart stickers will provide a motivating assortment of incentives to offer to the students for "purchase" with their earned classroom reward tokens (Bobcat Bucks).
Our PreK-5 school is introducing a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program designed to reinforce responsible, respectful and safe school behaviors. I am the counselor for the school and serve as the contact person for the PBS program. Based on a simple behavioral premise that rewarding good behavior will increase the likelihood of that behavior, we have established a system of earning "Bobcat Bucks" (school mascot is a bobcat) for exhibiting appropriate and super-appropriate daily school behaviors. These tokens can be redeemed for special privileges and small tangible items. The venue for redeeming Bobcat Bucks is a motivational Bobcat Bodega, a rolling merchandise cart with a festive array of privilege coupons, small games and school supplies. Due to the size of the school (764 students), it has become quite a challenge to provide an adequate supply of the high-demand school supplies.
While school staff members have been generous in donating to our "Bodega Fund", our bi-weekly Bobcat Buck shopping experience has rapidly expended our supply of "merchandise." We view this as a positive problem to encounter, since the demand indicates that our students are earning many, many bucks as indicators of outstanding school behaviors.
The resources that we are requesting will provide high-quality incentives that will provide students with creative materials. This will not only reinforce appropriate behavior, but will also provide a creative atmosphere to use the school supplies in a productive manner.
Your help will provide all of our 764 students with high-quality materials that will continue to impress upon them the fact that outstanding school behavior will result in outstanding opportunities to enjoy a creative expression of the eager joy they exhibit.
