"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!" (Dr. Seuss)
I will be teaching 25 wonderful, energetic K5 students beginning in August!
For some, K5 will be their first learning experience and for most it will be their first learning experience in a school setting. I know they will enter our room with smiles, eager to see what they will be using to learn and where they will spend the next 180 days of school.
My Project
I would like provide a book for students to take home nightly for their reading homework. While I do use the books we have available in the classroom, I would like for students to have the opportunity to practice their reading skills with books that are on their reading level. Having BOB Books available will allow students to do more of the reading themselves with words they can understand, rather than listening to their parents read to them. This series of books builds reading levels based on the number and difficulty of words used. It also has sets for alphabet and rhyming skill practice. BOB Books are also reasonably priced, allowing me to get more books than other leveled book sets provide for the same amount of money.
My school has a diverse population, with some families having more books than others.
Typically, those families who do have books at home have traditional picture books, with engaging stories and illustrations, though most often, they are too difficult for beginning readers to read independently. With your support, my students can read books on their reading level at school AND at home, building their confidence as a reader and helping them develop a solid foundation in literacy.
